Summary

Understand the principles and practices of a business strategy, how to create, implement and measure it, and align it to business objectives to ultimately boost productivity, results and team engagement.

As an engineer seeking to develop in a leadership position, the role of strategy cannot be understated. Working on a strategy can be a daunting task but it needn’t be. When we articulate strategy, we are pursuing a longer-term vision and breaking that down to deliverable goals. Developing your own departmental strategy will help you achieve buy-in, collaborate, and create a shared sense of direction with your critical stakeholders.

Attending this programme will equip you with the tools to develop your own departmental strategy. You’ll start by exploring the fundamental purpose of strategy and we’ll progress to defining your vision, goals and communicating with your stakeholders. The process can be used for focusing on your business, career and personal aspirations.

Who should attend?

Mid to senior level managers who:
• Have never been taught how a robust strategy will help them achieve their short-, medium- and long-term goals
• Struggle with getting team projects over the line, or knowing how to translate their vision into clear, actionable steps with built-in accountability
• Haven’t yet fully grasped the link between strategy and performance at all levels within an organisation
• Need a proven framework and the right models and tools to build engagement within their teams and recognise the value each provides

How will I benefit?

After the course you will be able to:
• Create a high-level overview of what your strategy could look like, linked to current and longer-term business and team goals.
• Develop a communication plan which shows what your strategy is trying to achieve, why it’s important, which key stakeholders are involved, and any potential threats.
• Understand why having a strategy is critical, and how to use it to engage, influence, and inspire others to support and participate in its development and implementation
• Demonstrate your understanding and application of tools and models that develop the strategic aims of your plan and achieve its primary aims
• Articulate a list of metrics that can be used to monitor and demonstrate the success of your strategy one hundred days after implementation and longer-term
• Understand how and why an effective strategy is the foundation of all personal and business activity that is aligned to goals, and with the skills gained on this course, apply key elements to a variety of scenarios as a predictor of future success.
• Create a strategy that can flex as change occurs so as not to lose momentum and employee engagement.
