Formula Student Award

The Formula Student and Transport Challenges Awards Committee is pleased to be able to provide financial awards to teams to compete in the competition.

The Formula Student competition provides a unique opportunity for mechanical engineering undergraduates to participate in a complex project to design and develop a small racing car that will be benchmarked against cars from other worldwide academic institutions.

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is keen to assist in the development of engineers with both academic knowledge and its practical application; Formula Student is a proven approach supporting this objective.

Value of award

The Formula Student and Transport Challenges Awards Committee is pleased to be able to provide awards of up to £4,500 to teams to compete in the Formula Student 2024 competition in the following categories:

Formula Student

Class permitting CV (Internal Combustion Vehicle), EV (Electric Vehicle) and AVF (Alternative Fuel Vehicle) type entries

Formula Student - AI

Class permitting DV (Driverless Vehicle) type entries, both ADS (Autonomous Driving System) and DDT (Dynamic Driving Task).

General Conditions Governing Awards, Scholarships or Grants

  1. Applicants for awards shall enter an agreement with the IMechE’s Formula Student and Transport Challenges Awards Committee to accept and abide by these conditions which may be modified from time to time as deemed appropriate by the Trustee Board Awards Committee. Failure to comply with the conditions shall result in forfeiture of the award
  2. Upon completion of the event, the primary contact must submit a report on the work which the team has been able to carry out with the aid of the award. The Institution shall hold the copyright and right to publish any such report.
  3. The Trustee Board Awards Committee reserves the right to modify these conditions from time to time as may be considered necessary, always bearing in mind the aims and the spirit of the Trust Deed.
