Summary

This interactive one day workshop has been designed to take account of the emergence of millennials in the workplace.

Whilst it is true that each generation is a little different from those preceding, this is particularly marked for those born between 1980 and 2000. Growing up during this period, with the dramatic impact of rapid technology change and the evolution of the internet with its many ramifications for how we live now, means millennials have a significantly different outlook on many topics - not least work and what they expect from it.

It is estimated that by 2020 they will make up half the workforce. Engineering is not immune from seismic changes that have been taking place over the last few years and it makes sense therefore to consider how organisations, and particularly leaders, should react to this newest working generation.

The workshop defines what it means to be a millennial and explores the differing character, philosophy and expectations of this generation. It considers how some traditional leadership and management theories and practices need to either be abandoned or modified to ensure they continue to be effective.

Attendees will leave with a greater appreciation of exactly what they need to adapt and how they can develop themselves to create the best possible environment to attract, retain and maximise the new workplace generation.
