Partnership with UKACC

The United Kingdom Automatic Control Council (UKACC) represents the UK community of scientists and engineers who have a professional interest in automatic control. UKACC is also the national member organisation for the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), which aims to promote the science and technology of control world-wide.

Currently there are four engineering institutions which are corporate members of UKACC, including the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, which is represented by two MICG committee members on UKACC's executive group. There are also around 25 group members of UKACC, and individual membership is permitted.

For many years, UKACC has organised a biennial conference. Control 2012 was held in Cardiff, Control 2014 at Loughborough University, Control 2016 at Queens University Belfast, and 2018 at the University of Sheffield.  This is the premier conference for the UK control community, also attracting significant international participation.  Mini-symposia on the second day focus on industrial applications; one of these is usually organised by the MICG on behalf of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. For example, recent mini-symposium have concerned modelling and control in automotive applications; control of renewable energy devices and systems; and control for unmanned air systems.
